I am always suspicious when I can't find a restaurant in Yelp. Believe me I searched several different ways for this great little place before I entered it as a new business. If I missed it, I apologize and will move my review to the original listing. Ms T and I were looking for a little simpler meal for lunch on this day and thought grilled chicken sounded good. There was a reference to this place in a Santa Fe restaurant guide that brought us here. I usually am pretty careful about following those guides since they tend to direct you to the touristy or very popular places without regard to how good it is. In this case it was not a bad tip. Pollo Asado is the actual full name of the place. It is sort of like a food truck that has found a permanent location. We ordered at the window of the truck and the smell of the grilled chicken that comes out of the window is enough to make you drool right there. Your order is assembled for you and it takes 15-20 minutes. On a busier day it might be longer, although there were at least five orders delivered ahead of us. We took our order back to the hotel so we could spread it out. I ordered a half chicken dinner and Ms T had chicken tostados. The orders were huge. My dinner came with delicious home style lardy refried beans, rice, a folded corn tortilla quesadilla, six corn tortillas and one chile jalapeno toreado. The chile was incendiary, at least on this day. They include a very good red chile sauce with good heat. But the pollo, oh, the pollo! It was delicious, juicy, well seasoned, properly salted and with wonderful charcoal grill flavor. Even the breast meat was good, not dried out. The half chicken would have easily served us both, so since we were travelling, regretfully, some of it was wasted. The half was cut into manageable pieces, wing drumette, wing second joint, leg, thigh and breast cut crossways into two pieces. Ms T ordered tostados de pollo. These were also awesome. You get the same delicious chicken, off the bone, cut into strips. She managed to eat one and one went to waste, again because we were travelling and did not want to keep leftovers. When I travelled on business in Mexico, I always saw the Pollo Pepe and Pollo Loco places, but because my hosts always thought I would want "fancier" food we never stopped there (actually it was they that wanted fancier). Now I feel I have tried it and it was even better than I imagined. We come to Santa Fe to eat classic New Mexico food, usually red and/or green chile. This pollo is worth looking for, for a great lunch and a change of pace. I must say that among all the great meals we had on this trip, this one stands out. What a picnic this would make.

Delicious chicken at a great price! The half chicken meal makes a filling and tasty takeout dinner for two or three. The chicken is smoky, moist, and flavorful. The sauce is spicy and complex. Keep in mind, this is a food truck and there's nowhere to sit at their current location, so if you're looking for a place to eat out this isn't it.

Rarely there are times when I bite into food and all the flavor explodes in just one bite that I become an instant fan. Wow! Talk about roll-your-eyes back good. The chicken was amazing. The beans and rice are OK. Both could use a little more flavor but they're OK. I've only tried the half chicken dinner meal. Trust me, it's a large portion that two people can share. Enjoy!

We had been on the road for a week and was really hungry for some good food for our last night when we spied the reviews on Pollo Asado. We had just passed this place and It was near our motel. Another review had said that the half chicken was more than enough for two and he was correct. I ask my husband to go and get it. It was probably the best chicken I've ever eaten. The plate also included rice and beans, a jalapeño, corn tortillas, and a tortilla with cheese in it. We had about half of the food left over. All this for $10. Delicious!

I will drive the 5 hours to Santa Fe from Fort Collins to eat this. I have never been happier than I was, sitting with my boyfriend, in the parking lot of the Silver Saddle Motel, eating this chicken over a couple of cold beers.

We arrived at around 11:30 and our order was available in about 10 minutes...We ordered the whole chicken dinner for 20 bucks.....However when we got it served, it was not that juicy or tender as others have asserted...it was just ok...as if it had been cooked an hour or so before it was ordered....yes the thigh meat was fine the white meat on the verge of dry....the flavor was not of the boring store bought variety however it was not as exotic and interesting as others have stated....good tortillas, standard refried runny beans....rice, didn't even try it....on the plus side, large portions....Is this the answer to unbelievable roast chicken? No. There was once upon a time on Garfield St. a market that had mouth watering foul cooked to real perfection....this is not that. Will not being going back.

truly off-the-hook grilled chicken. family recipe apparently. based on its moistness the bird is probably brined, & the marinade, dry rub, or whatever he's doing is just killer. chicken comes served with tasty pickled onions & quesadillas. wish the rice & beans were better. nice peeps.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
